Business Manager (Finance)

Our government client is currently seeking an experienced Senior Finance / Business Manager to lead business performance, financial strategy, and operational improvements within a dynamic Mental Health directorate in South Australia. This is a short term contract based in Adelaide’s CBD.

YOU | Bring your financial acumen, strategic leadership, and operational expertise to this high-impact role within a key South Australian Government agency. You will drive the effective management of budgets, resources, and business planning in a complex, service-driven environment. You will also bring:
• A tertiary qualification in Accounting, Economics, Commerce, Business, Health Administration, or a related discipline
• Demonstrated experience in financial and human resource management, including the development and implementation of financial strategies
• High-level skills in financial analysis, business reporting, and budgeting
• Experience leading performance improvement initiatives, benchmarking, and KPI development
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships across all levels of staff and external stakeholders
• Experience in managing computerised accounting systems and spreadsheets (e.g. Excel, Word, Access)
• Demonstrated ability to manage competing workloads, meet deadlines, and work both autonomously and collaboratively
• A strong understanding of relevant Work Health and Safety and Return to Work legislation, and ability to apply risk management principles aligned with AS/NZS 31000
• Proven leadership experience, including staff management, supervision, and team motivation

THE ROLE | As a Business Manager, you will provide strategic and operational leadership in the planning, coordination, and delivery of financial and business services within a Mental Health portfolio. You will work closely with executive teams to ensure efficient resource allocation, compliance with financial frameworks, and the achievement of service delivery objectives.
Key responsibilities include:
• Leading the development, implementation, and monitoring of budgets, forecasts, and business plans
• Providing expert financial analysis and reporting to inform executive decision-making
• Driving financial performance improvements through the use of KPIs and benchmarking tools
• Supporting the management of human resources and contributing to workforce planning
• Managing business risks in accordance with relevant legislation and risk management standards
• Facilitating the delivery of timely, accurate, and compliant financial documentation and reports
• Promoting continuous improvement in financial and business operations across the directorate
• Building strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including other government departments and health networks
