Category Officer
Our South Australian Government client is currently seeking an experienced Category Officer to support the management and delivery of procurement activities.
YOU | Bring your procurement acumen, analytical mindset, and stakeholder management expertise to this exciting opportunity. You will support end-to-end procurement processes, ensuring compliance, value-for-money outcomes, and strong supplier relationships.
You will also bring:
• Demonstrated procurement and contracting experience, with strong negotiation and supplier management skills
• Experience managing sourcing processes, including RFQs and RFTs, from initiation through to contract award
• Proven ability to manage contract administration and variations in line with government procurement frameworks
• Strong research and analytical skills, with a keen eye for accuracy and compliance
• Highly developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and build trust
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report and tender documentation preparation
• Intermediate skills in MS Excel, MS Word, and MS Outlook
• Formal tertiary qualifications in Procurement, Law, Commercial disciplines, or MCIPS certification (or equivalent experience)
THE ROLE | As Category Officer, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality procurement outcomes. Working collaboratively with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and contract managers, you’ll support the full procurement lifecycle from market engagement through to contract delivery and performance monitoring.
Key responsibilities include:
• Coordinating and managing sourcing activities, including preparing RFQs and RFTs for contractor engagements
• Supporting contract management and variation processing to ensure compliance with procurement policies and guidelines
• Conducting market research and analysis to inform procurement strategies and supplier negotiations
• Maintaining accurate procurement records and ensuring alignment with government procurement frameworks
• Building and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers and stakeholders to drive effective and transparent outcomes
• Assisting in the preparation of procurement documentation, evaluation reports, and approval submissions
• Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives within procurement operations
