Principal Finanical Accountant ASO7 | Port Adelaide, SA

An exciting opportunity is available for a Principal Financial Accountant (ASO7) to join Shared Services SA within the South Australian Government.

YOU | Bring extensive financial accounting expertise, leadership capability and a strong understanding of government financial frameworks. You will be confident leading a small team while delivering high-quality statutory reporting and financial services across multiple agencies. With a proactive and solutions-focused approach, you will also bring:

Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or similar, with CA or CPA membership
Demonstrated experience preparing complex financial statements and managing audit processes
Strong knowledge of accounting standards, legislation, and governance frameworks in a government context
Experience with financial systems such as Oracle, SAP or similar, and advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Proven ability to analyse financial data and provide high-level accounting advice
Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships
Leadership capability with experience motivating and guiding team members
Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
Experience driving process improvements and implementing financial management initiatives
Understanding of risk management frameworks (AS ISO 31000:2018) and Work Health and Safety requirements
Current National Police Clearance (required upon offer)

THE ROLE | This role is responsible for leading the delivery of financial accounting services, including statutory reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, general ledger management, payroll interface and fixed asset accounting. You will oversee the preparation of financial statements, manage audit liaison, and provide expert financial advice to a range of government agencies. The role also involves supporting team development, maintaining a strong control environment, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring compliance with service level agreements, legislative requirements and accounting standards.
