Join a dynamic South Australian Government agency in Adelaide CBD as a Senior Safety in Design Specialist for a 12-month opportunity, contributing to the delivery of safe, sustainable and whole-of-life water and wastewater infrastructure outcomes across South Australia.
YOU | Bring your strong Safety in Design expertise and deep understanding of engineering design, WHS systems and sustainability principles to a collaborative and technically driven infrastructure environment. You will also bring:
• Extensive experience in Safety in Design (SiD) principles and application within complex infrastructure environments
• Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, regulations and practical implementation in engineering and asset delivery
• Demonstrated experience in engineering design processes across the asset lifecycle
• Ability to lead and embed Safety in Design and Sustainability by Design (SubD) practices across large programmes of work
• Experience engaging and managing consultants, contractors and multidisciplinary stakeholders
• Strong capability in facilitating workshops including hazard identification, innovation and value engineering sessions
• Proven ability to operate across design and construction phases to ensure compliance with organisational standards
• Strong understanding of sustainability requirements and whole-of-life asset considerations
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills across technical and executive levels
• Ability to influence and drive cultural change in safety and design outcomes
• Experience in monitoring compliance and supporting corrective actions across projects and programs
• Commitment to continuous improvement, innovation and best-practice safety outcomes in design
• Tertiary qualification in Engineering or related discipline (desirable)
THE ROLE | Act as a senior subject matter expert leading Safety in Design practices and supporting the integration of sustainability outcomes across water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
• Lead the application, facilitation and continuous improvement of Safety in Design (SiD) across the organisation
• Provide expert advice on Safety in Design and Sustainability by Design (SubD) across all project stages
• Facilitate workshops and engagement sessions including hazard identification, risk reduction and design optimisation
• Monitor compliance with WHS legislation, organisational procedures and industry best practice
• Contribute to the development, implementation and governance of Safety in Design systems and frameworks
• Support consistent application of safe, sustainable and fit-for-purpose design outcomes across infrastructure programs
• Provide reporting, analysis and insights on Safety in Design performance and improvement opportunities
• Collaborate with engineering, asset management, operations, procurement and delivery teams
• Engage with contractors, consultants and external stakeholders to ensure compliance and alignment
• Contribute to capability building, training and education across Safety in Design practices
• Support innovation and continuous improvement in safety, sustainability and design efficiency
• Drive alignment with corporate WHS and sustainability strategies and objectives
