Senior Materials Engineer | Adelaide, SA
Join a dynamic South Australian Government agency in Adelaide CBD as a Senior Materials Engineer for a 12-month opportunity, working on critical water and wastewater infrastructure projects that support sustainable communities across South Australia.
YOU | Bring your strong materials engineering expertise and deep understanding of corrosion prevention, cathodic protection and water infrastructure systems to a collaborative and technically driven engineering team. You will also bring:
• Tertiary qualification in Materials, Mechanical or Civil/Structural Engineering (essential)
• Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) with Engineers Australia (essential)
• Strong experience in materials engineering within water and wastewater infrastructure environments
• Proven expertise in corrosion prevention, cathodic protection and asset integrity management
• Experience in investigation, design, option development and technical review of infrastructure projects
• Strong capability in auditing engineering designs, standards and specifications
• Detailed knowledge of materials engineering practices within large infrastructure organisations
• Experience applying Safety in Design (SiD) across the asset lifecycle
• Ability to provide technical advice on materials selection, durability and system performance
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills across multidisciplinary teams, contractors and consultants
• Experience working with or contributing to technical standards and governance frameworks
• Commitment to innovation, continuous improvement and best-practice engineering outcomes
• Desirable: affiliation with industry bodies such as Engineers Australia, NACE or ACA
• Mechanical or civil engineering backgrounds with strong materials/corrosion experience will be considered
THE ROLE | Act as a senior technical specialist providing materials engineering expertise across the planning, design, investigation, review and delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
• Provide specialist investigation, design support and technical auditing across materials engineering disciplines
• Act as subject matter expert in corrosion prevention and cathodic protection systems
• Lead and support Safety in Design (SiD) processes across infrastructure projects and asset lifecycle stages
• Ensure materials engineering considerations are embedded into design, construction and maintenance activities
• Develop, review and maintain technical standards, specifications and guidelines for materials and corrosion control
• Conduct audits, site inspections and technical assessments of infrastructure assets and designs
• Provide expert advice on materials selection, durability, performance and lifecycle outcomes
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including engineering, asset management, operations and delivery partners
• Support training, workshops and capability development across materials engineering practices
• Engage with contractors, consultants and suppliers to ensure compliance and best-practice outcomes
• Contribute to innovation, new technologies and continuous improvement in materials engineering
• Support governance, compliance and technical assurance across SA Water infrastructure
